Tracy Salamander was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. This included tree climbing, bike riding, tadpole and bug catching, paper throwing and both a parochial and public education along side his older brother Regan. At an early age he demonstrated a great interest in biological and physical sciences which led to volunteering in a local hospital emergency room under the Medical Explorers program at age 15.
That experience was the catalyst for future employment in hospital central supply then as a surgical orderly. As fate would have it he chose to become a Pharmacist. While in junior college, on the suggestion of his brother, he began his martial arts training in 1977 under Grandmaster Yong Taek Chung, first generation pioneer of the Chung Do Kwan from Seoul, Korea. After 3 years at the UMKC School of Pharmacy he was awarded Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in the fall of 1979.
After faith, he credits his martial arts training as the most influential aspect of his adult life. While practicing pharmacy, Mr. Salamander held teaching positions as main school assistant instructor to Grandmaster Chung, Instructor University of Missouri at Kansas City Karate Club, Instructor Northeast Kansas City Karate club, Instructor Overland Park Karate club, and Instructor of the Westport Karate Club.
In 2005, Mr. Salamander was awarded a 6th degree black belt from Grandmaster Chung (deceased 2006). Retiring from the practice of pharmacy after 34 years, he is now focused on being a "new" student of Seibukan Shorin Ryu karate under Sensei Regan Salamander and Sensei Jeff Cooper and holds a brown belt. Our organizational structure is overseen by IOSSKA Supreme Instructor Hanshi Zenpo Shimabukuro, Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Salamander brings his 38 years of martial arts experience to Springs Karate & Fitness as both student and Senpai (assistant instructor) to Sensei Salamander and Sensei Cooper in educating and raising new generations of dedicated martial art practitioners.
